The morning brought an improved Lady P (hungry!) and another nice blue-sky day. So, off to the restaurant for our inclusive breakfast. This has shades of 1990’s travel, where you stayed in hotels, had a tariff that included breakfast and gorged yourself on the buffet. Well, some will relate to this!

The buffet was, as expected and magnificent. Hot, cold, continental, full English, American coffee and a proper barista giving you cappuccinos. Healthy stuff and lots of sweet treats. Shame she was a bit reluctant, eh? Flashy made up for it though.

A change of attire today, with the better gear coming out and the jeans etc, going into the wash bag. We are on the Promenade des Anglaise after all.

Ten thousand steps saw us relive our last visit here. In to the old town to the market, the place we stayed last time, the glace bar where we had lavender glace and restaurants we visited.  All this is glorious sunshine. Getting boring, eh?

A beer and a coffee secured us a table in the sunshine in the market at Mama Mia Café, where we lingered as long as was polite, then heading toward the new town and commercial area, we spy a barber. Flashy gets his cinque millimetre cut for €12, finds a shop for some new walking shoes for €50 and we end back at our hotel for a nap for some and a hour long walk for others.

There is some competition for sunset photos, given Flashy’s brilliant one last night. This competition happens in the promenade front bar with negroni/GnT. Her photos are not quite up to standard!

Dinner tonight is in the hotel and while it was originally planned for yesterday and the old French menu, we played it safe and had a burger and slow cooked lamb, along with a nice Cote du Rhone. Both meals were excellent and we were amused to watch the untrained service staff almost burn down the leadlight ceiling by using too much Cognac to flame the chateaubriand. Not learning much from that episode, he did the same moments later at another table with the Cointreau on the Crepe Suzette! Better than watching TV.

  Saturday 30 March 2024 – Easter Saturday An early start today as we head off to Doolin to catch the ferry to the Aran Islands. Everything working well; car - no problems; weather cold. No, very cold. The ferry departs on time and is very comfortable below decks. There are three islands in the Aran group. Little, middle and big island, named respectively Heer, Maan and More. We get off at the big island where there are four of pubs and some shops. There are a few ways of seeing the island. It’s 15 kms long, so Flashy did not suggest we walk it.   2 January 2024 According to Lady P, the spending for the holiday only starts on 1 Jan, so if we ignore NYE Champagne, food and accommodation, we’re pretty much on budget for daily Euro 100. It rained for the first time of our visit last night and is still raining lightly this morning. May have to duck into Monoprix for a cheap umbrella before heading off to explore the west of Paris. We saw the temperatures in Helsinki this morning and as we will be there in a fortnight, the minus 12c and minus   19c being experienced gave us pause to reconsider additional layers that may be needed before we arrive rather than when we arrive there. Will have a look about at stores today. Talking about clothing and the weather, our puffer jackets are brilliant but not waterproof.   Friday 7 June 2024 Another at home day. Lady P mowed the lawns. Flashy put his feet up. Killed lots of flies and did nothing much else. Pizza for dinner from left over ingredients, but very delicious. Picking cherries from the tree Flashy supervising the lawn mowing. Tas and I met this guy, I'm sure on our trip. Not the PM.
