Wednesday 14 August
A sleep in was planned. Cairns friends called on Lady P’s phone at 8.30 am so it was apply Rule number 4. (one up, all up). A leisurely breakfast followed.
Now, get this. Flashy purchased a can, yes a can! of chilli con carne, made by some French couple in chef’s whites and a smiling face on the label. As you know there are many good things that come in cans. Baked beans for one. Tomatoes for two and the range of beans and lentils are not bad either. Purchased as an experiment, of course!
Well, it was excellent. Enough for three breakfasts. You could add a poached egg and some Tabasco if you fancy. It seems that the French can a lot of stuff, including cassoulet, confit duck, ravioli and lots more.
So, after breakfast we
drive leisurely to the small town of Janze (9,000 population) a short drive
south. A beautiful little town with a market and town square. We purchased some
cheese, specialty bread, coffee beans and some fresh veges; had a coffee and a
walk around, then out to one of our favourite supermarkets – Intermarche, for a
bottle of 'digestive' cider and some other bits and pieces.
The parking was a bit
tight in Janze but we spied a car space on the street. Lady P has been driving
since we got to France and as navigator, Flashy has, on occasion, been a tad
critical of her parking skills. Well today, she graduated as a French driver,
parking the Peugeot between two cars with less than a foot between them – and
did it first go, without bump parking as they sometimes do here! She also got
out in one piece as well. Just goes to show what a morning coffee can do. Home
to a cheese and dips lunch with a glass of the delicious aperitif cider (17%)
over ice.
We
are booked into the only restaurant in the immediate area, called la Java Bleue and it’s walking
distance from here. Apparently, it is very popular, a ‘must book, they come here from
everywhere!’ type of place. Five stars on Trip Advisor etc. One reviewer said it
was a temple to meat. Won’t be any vegans there, that’s for sure. Well, we have a bit in the
budget so, we will give it a go.
