Wed 1 May to Friday 3 May 2024

We collected our Peugeot 308 Hybrid from Bordeaux airport and drove in scattered showers to les Petites Rivieries, the small hamlet where we were greeted by Johnny and Emma Louise and shown to the dependence (bungalow), a separate building where we have a bedroom and ensuite. A series of French charcutière platters and wine has dominated our lunches and croissants, baguettes and the like our breakfasts, around the dining table and open fire and yesterday, out on the terrace in the sunshine.

On Thursday, the sun broke through and we got a touch of the sun as we guernied the mouldy paths. Johnny mowed the lawns and we drove into the bigger town of Saint-Jean-d'Angély for fuel and supplies. Flashy was put on BBQ duty, which is no hardship, as it involved wood and fire and we enjoyed a magnificent fillet du boeuf and local saussions and some pretty good red Bordeaux.

There was much discussion on the best way to tile around the swimming pool, so Friday morning, as it was again showery, we all went into Saint-Jean-d'Angély to look at paving stones and tiles. While there we picked up a beautiful  piece of veal and some mushrooms, as tonight we plan Jager Schnitzel and vegetables. Our supply of wine remains adequate.

  1. Did you know that the abbey at St Jean d'Angely was built to house a relic of St John the Bapist? Not sure which bit of him was kept there or if it is still there. (The Major)

  2. I'd love to visit of course but I'm up to my limit on church visits.
