Easter Sunday 31 March 2024
A
lazy day at home planned for today, with some clothes washing etc. Being a bit hot and
stuffy in our cottage, we decided to do a 20 minute walk on the road at the
back of us. Just 3 minutes into the walk, Flashy discovers, sort of in the
middle of a cow paddock, an ice cream shop/cafe. I guess the road down to an
abandoned fort on the foreshore, gets a lot of traffic during the summer and on
further observation, there were people about walking dogs and husbands.
We
shared a very good vanilla honeycomb ice cream before continuing the walk. It’s
open 11.00 am to 7.00 pm, so looking good for a coffee tomorrow.
There
are some things that are just Irish. Like leprechauns at the end of rainbows
and fairies doing all sorts of mischief. Well, we did see a rainbow the other
day and it reminded me of the time as kids, Michael and I tried to find the end
of one. We were told that at the end of the rainbow, we’d find leprechauns with
a pot of gold. I think we took sticks with us to beat off the leprechauns and steal
the gold. And fairies – well Lady P says “Flashy, it’s gin time!” Looking at my
analogue Citizen watch, the little hand was just past four and the big hand on
the two. Clearly a little early for the gin and besides I was reading a funny
book. “A bit early eh?” “Nonsense, it’s past five.” No it’s not. Yes it is. No
it’s not.” Well, blow me down, all the digital devices and we have a few, said
it was 10 past five not 10 past four and hence, well past gin time.
How
could Flashy’s watch be wrong? Impossible unless the fairies came in to the
room while he was reading and mischievously changed his watch. They’d do that,
you know. After much discussion and Googling stuff, we discovered that Ireland
(Europe in fact) had that morning gone to summer time!
