Colder here today but still +8c. A bit of rain overnight but clear (hence cold) skies this morning, so nice behind glass, with a coffee.

We went into Dorking today to shop for the weekend as our niece Alyssa is coming down from Oxford for the weekend. Hence, wine, spirits and a lump of beef is called for.

Now here’s a strange thing and it hasn’t happened to us before, but for the fifth time in the week, we have had.. “Where are you from? “Australia, mate”. “Blimey, I thought you were South Africans.”

I’m sure they don’t think we are bloody Jaapies, more like Laanies I’m sure. But, how do you get Seth Ayrfikan from ‘Stralia? Is it our smooth far north accent, perhaps?  Flashy is used to people thinking Lady P is Ukrainian, particularly when she speaks Italian to a Frenchman in a market in Nice.

Trying to book an appointment with a doctor, today. How hard should that be in a country serviced by the NHS, speaking the King’s English, and loving Seth Ayrfikans? Ah, maybe that’s the problem, because the local medical centre receptionist (I’d call her the door bitch), basically said “Sorry, call 111, we’re not taking temporary patients!” Perhaps, I should have said I’d pay in Kruger Rands. Only solution is to put Lady P onto it via internet research.

    Sound pretty tough. You hang in there. Just a question - Do you think you are "feeling" colder, now that you are in that annoying temperature zone of not freezing and not warm. Always hard to get the clothing right...

    Trying the doctor for our second shingles vaccine. No luck yet. The clothing issue is solved. We are just back to 'Melbourne winter dress'. Big pockets in the jacket for hat and gloves and another for the scarf when inside. Pubs have coat racks, so it's all good. Haven't felt cold since arriving in UK and you wouldn't believe how good an open fire is, particularly when you don't have to chop the wood. Just phone 'Rod the Log'
    and it comes in bags. (Roger)

  Saturday 30 March 2024 – Easter Saturday An early start today as we head off to Doolin to catch the ferry to the Aran Islands. Everything working well; car - no problems; weather cold. No, very cold. The ferry departs on time and is very comfortable below decks. There are three islands in the Aran group. Little, middle and big island, named respectively Heer, Maan and More. We get off at the big island where there are four of pubs and some shops. There are a few ways of seeing the island. It’s 15 kms long, so Flashy did not suggest we walk it.   2 January 2024 According to Lady P, the spending for the holiday only starts on 1 Jan, so if we ignore NYE Champagne, food and accommodation, we’re pretty much on budget for daily Euro 100. It rained for the first time of our visit last night and is still raining lightly this morning. May have to duck into Monoprix for a cheap umbrella before heading off to explore the west of Paris. We saw the temperatures in Helsinki this morning and as we will be there in a fortnight, the minus 12c and minus   19c being experienced gave us pause to reconsider additional layers that may be needed before we arrive rather than when we arrive there.   Friday 7 June 2024 Another at home day. Lady P mowed the lawns. Flashy put his feet up. Killed lots of flies and did nothing much else. Pizza for dinner from left over ingredients, but very delicious. Picking cherries from the tree Flashy supervising the lawn mowing. Tas and I met this guy, I'm sure on our trip. Not the PM.
