Like a dog with a bone – Lady P chases down the paperwork to get a refund of our train tickets that were cancelled because of the German train strike, two weeks ago. You can imagine the “correctness” of the form. Flashy even needed to get on the other computer and find out the NAB’s swift code to facilitate a payment/refund.

Well, while looking at our account today, I discovered that those efficient Germans had refunded us without request, straight into our bank (not sure how they got the details!!) get this, two days after the strike. If I hadn’t gone back through pages of transactions looking for something else, we’d never have found it. How embarrassing! A groveling apology to those lovely Germans is emailed immediately.

Now for another interesting Finnish event. The Air Guitar World Championships which takes place annually in the Northern city of Oulu. During this contest, participants from all over the world get on a stage and compete in air guitar playing. This event has become extremely popular over the years, so some of the countries even have to organize pre-qualifiers.

Flashy has picked up a bait and is unwell. Tummy not good and well, you don’t want the gory details but water is about all that will stay (for a short period) in the system. It’s been almost 24 hours now and there is a slight improvement. Lady P has been dispatched to the chemist.

On a brighter note, we managed to get a good pair of black trousers, so the outfit is complete.

As I will be laying about all day, I will look for some more interesting Finnish facts.

    Hi Andrew, As to the layers, the shopping centres are the hottest, but taking off the puffer jacket and carrying it, with hat, gloves and scarf(s) stuffed in the pockets works.

  Saturday 30 March 2024 – Easter Saturday An early start today as we head off to Doolin to catch the ferry to the Aran Islands. Everything working well; car - no problems; weather cold. No, very cold. The ferry departs on time and is very comfortable below decks. There are three islands in the Aran group. Little, middle and big island, named respectively Heer, Maan and More. We get off at the big island where there are four of pubs and some shops. There are a few ways of seeing the island. It’s 15 kms long, so Flashy did not suggest we walk it.   2 January 2024 According to Lady P, the spending for the holiday only starts on 1 Jan, so if we ignore NYE Champagne, food and accommodation, we’re pretty much on budget for daily Euro 100. It rained for the first time of our visit last night and is still raining lightly this morning. May have to duck into Monoprix for a cheap umbrella before heading off to explore the west of Paris. We saw the temperatures in Helsinki this morning and as we will be there in a fortnight, the minus 12c and minus   19c being experienced gave us pause to reconsider additional layers that may be needed before we arrive rather than when we arrive there.   Friday 7 June 2024 Another at home day. Lady P mowed the lawns. Flashy put his feet up. Killed lots of flies and did nothing much else. Pizza for dinner from left over ingredients, but very delicious. Picking cherries from the tree Flashy supervising the lawn mowing. Tas and I met this guy, I'm sure on our trip. Not the PM.
